MCAS Yuma, noise zones and farm country

The city's economy page names Marine Corps Air Station Yuma as the largest single employer in the county and says agriculture remains the largest segment of Yuma's economy, along with military and tourism (yumaaz.gov).

The city's Airport Overlay District maps noise zones from 65-70 dB up to greater than 80 dB, plus APZ-1, APZ-2 and a clear zone. In parts of it the code calls single-family, multi-family and manufactured housing "inconsistent and not compatible with airport operations" and prohibits them (amlegal.com).

The city still works from the 1996 Joint Land Use Plan noise contours, and says the air station's 2019 AICUZ study recommended development restrictions far greater than that plan.

The Census Bureau's July 1, 2025 estimate put Yuma County at 224,449 people.
